Enzo Maresca appears to be stepping aside from the vacant Celtic manager’s job as speculation intensifies that a deal for Brendan Rodgers is close to completion.

An approach for Pep Guardiola’s first team coach was put on hold until after the final of the Champions League but with the trophy being paraded through Manchester it seems that Celtic and Maresca are gently parting the ways.

Italian based Schira describes himself as a transfer expert, with 277,000 followers on Twitter he must have a good reputation for coming up with the goods.

With just 14 matches in charge of Parma in Serie B on his management CV Maresca would have been a high risk appointment regardless of how highly he is rated as a coach within the City Football Group.

Whether an EPL club will offer him a route into management remains to be seen with the 20 jobs in the English top flight among the most coveted in the game.

I agree it has to be Rodgers. The right man, right time.

Can’t afford to give The rangers any encouragement.

Get him in ASAP. For the sake of the club let bygones be bygones.
