The rapidly diminishing influence of the Blue Pound has forced two iconic west of Scotland premises to pull down the shutters.

Follow Following in the footsteps of Rangers Football Club in 2012 the Bristol Bar has gone into liquidation.

Situated in splendid isolation on 600 Duke Street the Bristol is a local landmark decked out in red, white and blue in case anyone was in any doubt about the loyalties of the management and their clientele.

Despite the recent spate of funerals, jubilees and the cranking up of Armed Forces Day and developing Remembrance Sunday into a week long festival the tills at the Bristol haven’t been filling up quickly enough to keep tabs with costs.

The advent of social media has provided The Bristol Bar with priceless publicity with Si and the team from The Gers TV using the Duke Street boozer as a backdrop to their intellectual discussions.

With new Irish pubs springing up every month in Glasgow city centre there could be an opportunity for some ambitious publican to give the Bristol a green and white makeover providing a new Celtic-friendly drinking spot within a mile of The Holy Ground.

Over in Motherwell it seems that times are tough for the Orange Order as they try to raise funds by selling their Scottish HQ which has very limited appeal and even less commercial opportunities.
