Daily Record struck dumb by Dykes deal

Last week the Daily Record was on the front foot as they launched their campaign to take Lyndon Dykes to Ibrox.

Endorsed by Charlie Adam and Barry Ferguson the Scotland striker had the benefit of playing under Micky Beale at QPR last season to settle in to his new home at Ibrox.

Reacting to the appointment of Brendan Rodgers as Celtic manager the Record broke the news of Ibrox interest in £7m rated Utrecht striker Anastasios Douvikas.

That one has quietly been dropped but it seems that £2m for Dykes was too much for Micky Beale’s war-chest as the club fails to offload the deadwood.

Dykes has extended his QPR contract with no mention in the Record story about interest from Ibrox. Nada.

After committing £3.5m to sign Sam Lammers from Atalanta signing news has come to a halt, as it stands there will be four new faces attending training at Murray Park on Friday, they hardly compare to the recently departed Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos, Malik Tillman, Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor.

There hasn’t been the slightest sign of interest in signing John Lundstram, Ben Davies, Rabi Matondo, Borna Barisic, Glen Kamara, Kemar Roofe or the rest of the deadwood. Without getting rid of players no more transfer fees will be leaving Ibrox.

The Record is relentless with their feel good stories but at some stage reality has to hit as they realise that next season’s squad is seriously weaker than last season’s losers.
