Dermot Desmond has been pictured arriving at Glasgow Airport just as a report has emerged linking Leeds United with Brendan Rodgers.

The Irishman has been reported to be seeking a year out of football but now finds himself being linked with two different jobs.

With Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay reported to have met with Rodgers in Mallorca over the weekend it seemed like momentum was building towards a return to Celtic.

Suggestions of his likely backroom team had surfaced but it appears that Celtic’s interest has forced Leeds into making moves with the initial story coming from The Athletic.

Soon after publishing pictures of Desmond at Glasgow Airport The Sun reported:

BRENDAN RODGERS’ return to Celtic could be hijacked at the 11th hour, it’s being reported.

Rodgers is closing in on a second stint as Hoops boss, with majority shareholder Dermot Desmond making him his preferred candidate to succeed Ange Postecoglou.

The 50-year-old has been lined up for face-to-face talks with Desmond and Celts chief executive Michael Nicholson in London.

SunSport understands Desmond is in Scotland this afternoon, but whether those negotiations with Rodgers are due to take place tonight or have already happened is unclear.

This comes after he initially distanced himself from the Celtic job, citing a desire to take some time out of the game.

It’s understood the Parkhead club are prepared to offer him Premier League-level wages but, according to The Athletic, recently-relegated Leeds United have identified Rodgers as “the man they really want”.

Ten days after completing the domestic treble Celtic fans are frantically covering social media for jigsaw pieces as the club attempts to appoint Ange Postecoglou’s successor.
