Barry Ferguson likes to defy logic, he is almost a natural at it.
Last season he watched Celtic win back-to-back Glasgow Derbies in February and April to take control of the SPFL title race.
When Ange Postecoglou faced up to Giovanni van Bronckhorst for the first time this season Barry told the Daily Record’s declining army of readers that his former team-mate had the Celtic boss sussed.
It was the last time that van Bronckhorst faced Celtic, a month before Christmas the Dutchman had his contract paid off.
Ferguson hasn’t been in management since being mutually consented by Alloa last February, soon after a brutal Scottish Cup tie against Celtic.
A return to management seems unlikely which gives him more time to amuse readers of the Record and listeners to Go-Radio.
Explaining himself in the Daily Record he wants to see Postecoglou stay on at Celtic to see how he copes toe-to-toe against Kieran Dowell and Dujon Sterling.
Those two could walk down Union Street in Larkhall with their names on the back of their shirts and not be recognised by any of the enlightened bears. No doubt the dynamic duo will also have Celtic sussed.
Barry tells the Record:
I’m fully aware that some of you won’t believe a word of this. To tell you the truth, I’m surprised myself at what I’m about to write.
But, in all honesty, there’s a big part of me that’s hoping Ange Postecoglou stays put at Celtic this summer and tells Spurs and their big mouthed supporters to ram it. Yes, of course, all of us who have Rangers best interests at heart might be relieved if the big man does disappear over the border next week when Tottenham make their move. After the last two years, it would be only natural to want to see the back of him.
But there’s a big flip side to that coin. The bottom line is, we want as many talented managers and players in Scottish football as we can get our hands on. And, as much as it might pain me to admit it, Postecoglou has been different class since arriving at Celtic. His brand of football has not just been excellent to watch, it’s also been hugely successful.
From a Rangers point of view, I’d like to see what Michael Beale plans to do about stopping him in his tracks. And I’d love to think the Englishman has enough in his locker to go toe-toe-to with him next season and come out on top.
Beale has made two exciting signings already and he’s clearly gearing up for a showdown with Postecoglou as he transforms his own side. I’m actually intrigued at what Postecoglou has up his sleeve across the city because he’ll know what he wants to improve his own team.
It seems that Spurs have yet to show interest in the Londoner that finks he knows everyfing about Scottish football.
Exciting signings?? A guy that has been out since February with knee ligament damage and another who has hardly played a game. Ffs is this wee tadger for real.
Oh yes he’s for real. 😀
Thick as the brown stuff Newco 2012 cheerleader.
