Chris Sutton believes that money will have little to do with the decision Ange Postecoglou faces IF he is offered the chance to manage Spurs.
A very attractive salary will no doubt be on offer alongwith severance terms if his time at the club was to be cut short in the same manner as Antonio Conte, Nuno Espirito Santo, Jose Mourinho and various others that have put their trust in Daniel Levy.
As every Celtic fan knows Spurs play in the most lucrative league in the world, the players and managers are the best rewarded in the game but with that comes an alarming casualty rate. Half of the managers that started out in charge in August didn’t see it through to May, some clubs had three manager in a year.
In the space of two years it seems that Postecoglou has virtually had his own way in the transfer market, signing the players that he wanted and easing out on loan the deadwood that he inherited.
On that basis he has delivered success, lots of it with a squad full of assets on the park worth much more than was paid for them.
Whether Levy will hand over that level of control is unknown, the issue of Harry Kane’s final year under contract will dominate the summer months.
If the offer is made Postecoglou will have more questions than ‘How much are the wages’ assessing the issues in the Daily Record Sutton writes:
My own opinion looking from the outside in is that it isn’t down to money, be it for himself or for players that he could buy. This comes down purely to ambition. Whether or not there is that ambition to manage in the English Premier League. It’s not really about Celtic because if that ambition really does burn within him, Spurs would offer an incredible chance at this stage of his managerial career. Postecoglou wants to make a mark in the Champions League. But what sort of a mark can he make at Celtic as opposed to in London?
The former Celtic striker concluded with:
As I said, this really has nothing to do with Celtic. If they were playing in the English Premier League and able to spend enough to properly compete in the Champions League, you’d imagine he’d stay because I believe he has developed a real affection for the place. But they are not. So if Spurs were to make the right offer, it’s hard to see it being turned down.
The guessing game looks like overshadowing Saturday’s Scottish Cup Final with a more important matter than a trophy in the minds of Celtic supporters.
it would be a good move for himself financially , but his style of play which he can get away against weaker opponents week in and out in scotland won’t be on offer in the epl , but good luck to him if he goes we never died a winter yet !!
