McGowan adds new name to Celtic’s managerial short-list

Stephen McGowan has added Graham Potter to the short-list of potential Celtic managers.

Late on Tuesday night four names were listed that didn’t include the former Brighton and Chelsea boss who was one of the brightest stars in English football a year ago.

Taking over from Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea seemed like a golden opportunity but it quickly turned sour with his reign at Stamford Bridge lasting just 31 matches.

Potter was sacked by Chelsea on April 3, while he will have the consolation of a lucrative severance payment but will be looking for a route back into management for next season.

Celtic have provided Brendan Rodgers and Postecoglou with a route to trophies and an EPL management job which could appeal to Potter, late this afternoon the Daily Mail reported:

Celtic are drawing up a list of candidates for the manager’s position, with a club statement vowing to prioritise the right appointment instead of making a quick one.

Sources close to Manchester City assistant manager Enzo Maresca say he will blank any conversation over a move to Glasgow until Saturday’s Champions League final is done and dusted.

Also coming under consideration are Chelsea and Brighton boss Graham Potter, Jesse Marsch and Bodo/Glimt’s Kjetil Knutsen.

Davie Moyes was on McGowan’s earlier list but appears to have been replaced by Potter.

Celtic will start pre-season training at the end of this month with their first friendly taking place on July 19 when they face Yokohama F Marinos, Postecoglou’s former club.
