New injury blow for John Souttar

John Souttar is an injury doubt for Scotland’s European Championship qualifier against Norway on Saturday.

The defender started eight SPFL matches in the season just ended which was good enough to walk into Steve Clarke’s squad alongside Ibrox pal Ryan Jack.

Ross Wilson was questioned at the Ibrox AGM in November over putting a known crock on a four year contract with Souttar starting just one match for Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Souttar has three Achilles injuries on his CV with the latest set-back being described as a ‘knock’ in the Daily Record:

John Souttar is a major doubt for Scotland’s crucial Euro 2024 clash in Norway.

Record Sport understands the Rangers defender has picked up a knock ahead of the trip to Oslo on Saturday. Souttar is in discussions with gaffer Steve Clarke and national team medics on whether to pull out of the squad. The 26-year-old centre-back is keen to stay with the group for the Euro double-header away to Norway and at home to Georgia.

Micky Beale’s non-internationalists report for pre-season training on June 30 with Connor Goldson not expected to resume full training until the end of July.

Former Chelsea star Dujon Sterling can play in any defensive role.
