With their usual sense of sarcasm and irony Paddy Power have announced Ange Postecoglou’s retirement from winning silverware.

The Australian is expected to speak with Spurs this week with an inevitability that he will then take charge of Spurs, taking on the poisoned chalice that Antonio Conte warned about.

Spurs haven’t won a trophy since 2008, with many fans in revolt over Daniel Levy’s running of the business Postecoglou faces an incredible challenge to turn the club around.

After finishing eighth in the EPL a top four finish will be demanded next season- similar to the expectations of Liverpool and Chelsea who also won’t be playing in next season’s Champions League.

Today it has been reported that Harry Kane visited Madrid earlier this year, with Levy determined to extract maximum value for the England captain Postecoglou is likely to be kept in the dark about Kane’s future.

Manchester City’s domination of domestic trophies shows no sign of easing up, if Postecoglou can end the 15 year trophy wait of Spurs fans he will be hailed as a hero, until that happens fans will be wondering why Luis Enrique was overlooked with Barcelona and Spain on his CV.
