Equidistant from Celtic Park and Hampden, Rutherglen is an area of Glasgow well known to Celtic fans.

Coming from Lanarkshire to Hampden, buses would slowly make their way down Main Street, pass The Vogue on the right and The New Orleans on the left then along Prospecthill Road before parking for Hampden. The venue for so much of Celtic’s history.

After a period of mixed results at the National Stadium the Hampden hoodoo has been well and truly binned with the journey back through Rutherglen generally one of joy with a trophy to celebrate or cup final place booked and a return trip.

Rutherglen also provided Celtic with one of their greatest ever talents, Bobby Murdoch was born and brought up there with his legend still celebrated by the supporters club from the Vogue Bar.

With Celtic now level on trophies won with Rangers today could be a momentous day for fans in Rutherglen and beyond.

One more trophy and Celtic will never be caught, 11 years after their demise Celtic are on the brink of overtaking their ill-gotten gains with the prospect of a world record eighth domestic treble in touching distance.
