Borna Barisic has opened talks about extending his Ibrox contract.

The defender moved to Ibrox from Osijec in the summer of 2018 and has 12 months left on his current deal.

After watching Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos leave as free agents Barisic knows that he could be in that situation this time next year- or sign up on new improved terms.

Despite the summer arrival of Ridvan Yilmaz for £4.5m Barisic started 27 SPFL matches, missing a couple of matches due to Croat’s extended run at the World Cup Finals.

Picking up on an interview from Croatia, Football Scotland reports:

I have a contract with Rangers for one more year. I have started negotiations with the club. I don’t want to say anything because you never know in football.

However, I have a great relationship with everyone at the club and we will find the best solution. There’s always speculation about my future. it reaches me – but little of it is true.

I missed three games at the end of the season, I had a quadriceps injury, it wasn’t terrible, but we didn’t want to risk it.

John Lundstram and Kemar Roofe are also out of contract next summer and are believed to be the highest earners at the club.
