Celtic are expected to receive close to £5m in compensation from Spurs for Ange Postecoglou.

From a 12 month rolling contract that is a fairly impressive total but only if it is used wisely to bring in a candidate of a similar calibre.

In 2019 Leicester City paid close to £9m compensation for Brendan Rodgers but that money was effectively banked with Neil Lennon being upgraded from caretaker to full time boss.

Since the fans left Hampden Park on Saturday night events have been moving rapidly with Postecoglou appearing to be on the verge of joining Spurs, possibly alongside John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan.

Late this afternoon The Telegraph reported:

Tottenham Hotspur’s 70-day hunt for a new head coach has finally come to an end with Ange Postecoglou agreeing to become chairman Daniel Levy’s 11th permanent appointment.

Postecoglou, who won a domestic treble in what proved to be his final season in charge of Celtic, has accepted the Spurs job after Julian Nagelsmann dropped out of the running and Arne Slot decided to stay at Feyenoord.

It is believed Postecoglou has agreed a contract that could run for three years and that he has cost Tottenham less than £5million in compensation, with an announcement being prepared.

Matt Lawson and John Percy put the report together, two of the top football writers at the Telegraph.

Celtic now face having to appoint their third manager in four years with Lennon coming in in May 2019 with Postecoglou in June 2021.

Taking over from the former Yokohama F Marinos boss is a double edged challenge- while having big boots to fill the new man will inherit a valuable young squad and a guaranteed place in the group stage of next season’s Champions League.

    No.
Calling BS on the rumoured £5M compo.

Ange was on a 12 months rolling contract at a basic of what, £1M or thereabouts?

The support is disappointed Ange is leaving: CFC PR will play the game to make Ange look bad,

and make the Board look competent.

I’d take everything with a bucketful of salt.

Let’s hope the Board learned something from the Lennon / Howe recruitment shambles?

When you sell something to someone, you set the price, if they don’t value it as highly as you do, you don’t sell it. Ange has to give a years notice if we don’t want to sell him. They are both buying him out of his contract and paying the compensation for us selling/releasing him, it’s not just his salary.

As much as I hate to say it, BR would be the man to slot into this squad at this moment in time, he would bring continuity and stability…it would put the fear in Sevco…..we would get over it
