The amazing decline of Jack Butland

A year ago boozed up Jack Butland was singing the praises of Callum McGregor, apparently there was no one better.

Following another season without playing any competitive football his career has hit rock bottom, wandering around a dated dressing room, looking uber staunch as he eyes up a tacky yellow goalkeeping shirt.

Butland was an England internationalist at 19 but life post Stoke City has been grim, in the season just finished he got transferred from back-up goalie at Crystal Palace to back up at Manchester United.

Palace had an option to retain him for another year but unfortunately some tedious past link to Micky Beale means that he’ll be part of the summer revolution which so far consists of the goalkeeper and two other free agents.

After singing the praises of the five times Treble Winner a year ago Butland will be led next season by James Tavernier, the man that has been watching McGregor dominate the Scottish game.
