Watch Tom English’s sneering Irish podcast as he trashes Brendan Rodgers

Using broadcasting equipment paid for by British licence payers Tom English has been mouthing off about Brendan Rodgers to an Irish podcaster.

It seems that the hosts value the views of the Chief Sports Writer at BBC Scotland even though English has never broken a worthwhile story in his entire career.

The previous night the man from the BBC had had a late night at Hampden covering soccer, returned home in the early hours and had a few beers to show off his laddish credentials.

While the signings of free agents from the English Championship has got English purring in excitement for the new season he is completely dismissive of Rodgers joining Celtic, the impact of the move and the motives of the new Celtic boss.

English is perfectly entitled to his views, BBC Scotland clearly value his contributions but Celtic are equally within their rights to refuse access to the broadcaster.

There is a balancing act in all of these issues. The threat to the mainstream from social and fan media is very real which is why English is using BBC equipment on a commercial podcast, showing that microphone lends authority to the podcaster.

If you want to be in the mainstream there are lines not to be crossed. If you want to be a gobby lad trashing the reputation and motivations of others then your employers might find that it is time to chose what they are, they can’t take up both options.

Does BBC Scotland want to provide serious, professional coverage or do they want to provide a platform for someone whose dislike for Celtic is obvious at every turn, recently forcing the BBC into an apology for the crass tweet by English following the death of Shane Warne.
