Daily Record called out over ‘quite disgraceful behaviour’ by Celtic fans

The Daily Record was quick to highlight ‘quite disgraceful behaviour’ from Celtic fans looking on at yesterday’s friendly match against Portimonense.

The Glasgow based publisher didn’t have any reporters at the match, instead they relied on comments from Twitter and Facebook with no prizes for guessing which line of second hand ‘quotes’ appealed to the editorial line preferred by the Record.

Perhaps as many as 100 Celtic fans were hoping to watch the match, covering a full range of ages, male and female, drawn to the venue from a variety of Algarve resorts. The Campus at Quinta do Lago where Celtic are based is 15 minutes drive from Faro Airport.

The match was due to kick-off at 5pm, it was delayed by one hour with a few fans on the ground explaining the situation on Twitter.

It was food and drink for the Record, served up to their target audience of bears that like nothing better than spending the close season reading about the stars Mister Beale has snapped up ahead of being the dominant force in Scottish football.

In trademark fashion the Record reported:

The One claimed the act was “actually quite disgraceful behaviour” while another said “it’s been advertised since the jump that it was behind closed doors.” It’s also been suggested some of those in attendance have made their way to the secret base from the Albuifeira region.

The Campus in Quinta do Lago is well known, located 10 minutes from the beach and is open to the public with fitness classes, swimming and other facilities as well as providing sports clubs with top class training facilities in a very pleasant climate. Recently Middlesbrough and Chelsea’s u-23 side have found their way to the ‘secret base’.

On The Campus website they advertise:

From the Real Estate suite at Roundabout 2, to the world-class golf at Roundabout 4, the high performance sports training at The Campus and a unique restaurant around every corner, there is always something to do at Quinta do Lago.

Celtic and Portimonense will play again on Saturday morning at the same venue.
