Two weeks of from being the subject of a bumper offer from Al Ettifaq Scott Wright is on his way to Turkey for a ‘six figure fee’.

Newly promoted Pendikspor are the victims with alleged interest from English Championship clubs failing to materialise.

On the back of Celtic selling Jota for £25m to Al Ittihad there was a fervour for a similar type deal from Ibrox.

A little known Twitter account opted to take things too far, rather than going for Glen Kamara or Borna Barisic to make the tale mildly believable Wright was chosen even though he started just six SPFL matches last season with no clubs interested in matching his Ibrox wages.

Fraser Fletcher of Football Insider was first to fall for it, claiming that Wright was using the same agency as Jota to unlock his ‘mega-bucks’ deal.

Good news for Micky Beale is hard to resist at the Record who jumped in head first just as the originator of the story was revealing that it was all complete fiction.

The Record informed their army of readers:

Rangers are hoping to tap into the Saudi oil money well as former boss Steven Gerrard prepared a £2m offer for winger Scott Wright.

Record Sport understands newly appointed El-Attifaq manager Gerrard has placed Wright’s name on a list of targets after agreeing to make the switch to the Middle East earlier this week on the same day as Celtic winger Jota. Wright is part of a phase three wave of transfer targets in this window targeted by the Saudi club are part of the overhaul by the former Ibrox and Aston Villa boss.

Gerrard signed Wright as a free agent from Aberdeen during his time in charge of the Ibrox club and, despite keeping him on the fringes of his first team at that time, he is now ready to splash some cash to make the 25-year-old one of his first new recruits.

Reality however is a little different for Scotty.

The Record reports:

Rangers winger Scott Wright is closing in on a £500,000 move to Turkish top flight new boys Pendikspor.

The 25-year-old has been edging towards the Ibrox exit door with a host of suitors eyeing him up but now a switch abroad appears to be in the offing. The Rangers winger has struggled for game time and will now get a shot in Turkey as he follows former team-mate Ryan Kent who signed for Fenerbahce.

It is believed that Aberdeen are due a slice of the profit on the Wright fee.
