Daizen Maeda has revealed that home comforts played a big part in his decision to extend his Celtic contract.

Life in the Glasgow goldfish bowl isn’t for everyone but it seems that the Japanese internationalists feels perfectly at home.

Across social media Maeda and his young family have been pictured out and about in the city or venturing east to the tourist delight that is Edinburgh.

Having followed Ange Postecoglou from Yokohama F Marinos to Celtic it wouldn’t have been a shock if Maeda had angled to follow his former boss out the door but after shifting continent 18 months earlier the industrious winger is happy to lay down some roots.

It is amazing to be able to play for Celtic for many more years. I would like to share the joy and happiness with the supporters and have more success again.

I can’t live in a place where my family doesn’t settle well. Fans and supporters in the city and at the nursery for my kids have helped us a lot, so now we feel that the city is very comfortable to live.

Maeda spent the 2019/20 season on the Portuguese island of Madeira playing for Maritimo before returning to Japan.

Under Postecoglou he had a very specialised role in the Celtic side despite playing as a striker for Japan at the World Cup Finals where he scored against Croatia.
