Shunsuke Nakamura has met up with Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda ahead of Wednesday’s friendly between Yokohama F Marinos and Celtic.

Almost 20 years ago Nakamura was the trailblazer as the midfielder moved to Celtic as the club’s first ever Japanese player.

His impact was instant with supporters thrilled by the contribution on the park while team-mates took on board a new level of professionalism to his pre and post match routines.

In his four year stint at Celtic Nakamura is best remembered for scoring home and away against Manchester United in the Champions League with the free-kick at Celtic Park taking the hoops through to the knock-out stage for the first time ever.

A new generation of Celtic fans are spoiled for choice with their Japanese heroes. The goals of Kyogo Furuhashi helped drive the hoops to the domestic treble, complimented by the industry of Daizen Maeda and the craft of Reo Hatate.

Tomorrow night the Japanese Bhoys will get to play in front of a home audience followed on Saturday with a match against Gamba Osaka before flying back to Scotland to complete their pre-season preparations.
