Ibrox starlet Alex Lowry is a loan target for Northampton Town.

The midfielder is the latest starlet to be talked up as the next Balon d’Or contender out of the Murray Park conveyor belt which dates back to John Fleck, Danny Wilson and Barrie McKay.

A goal in a Scottish Cup tie on his debut in January 2022 was a sure sign that Lowry was destined for greatness, that was followed up at the end of the season in a dead rubber against Hearts after Celtic had clinched the SPFL title.

Micky Beale gave the token platitudes about the outstanding midfielder when he took over from Giovanni van Bronckhorst then signed Nico Raskin and Todd Cantwell in the January transfer window.

Kieran Dowell has since been added, Sam Lammers is apparently a playmaker with a deal well advanced to bring Jose Cifuentes in from Los Angeles FC.

There are about 10 midfielders now ahead of Lowry with the Daily Record reporting:

Northampton are among a number of clubs who are keen on taking Alex Lowry on loan and Rangers are looking at potential options for their talented young playmaker.

The newly-promoted English League One outfit are interested in taking the 20-year-old south. Michael Beale has signed a number of players in the midfield area this summer and feels Lowry could benefit from going out to get first-team football to aid his development.

That has alerted Northampton boss Jon Brady who is keen to do a deal for Lowry. Northampton had fellow Scotland under-21 cap Marc Leonard who enjoyed a successful loan from Brighton last season as they climbed out of League Two.

Despite his best efforts to get rid of the deadwood Antonio Colak is the only contracted player to leave Ibrox during the current transfer window.
