Jack Lyons is on his way back to Celtic- completing a remarkable career circle from tactical blogger to adviser to a £40m England star.
During his first spell as manager Brendan Rodgers’ attention was drawn to the work of a blogger, after a meeting Lyons had a career change which switched to Leicester City in 2019 and an unexpected call out from James Maddison live on Sky Sports.
Rodgers is in the process of rebuilding his backroom staff at Celtic with a number of appointments beyond the front line coaching staff.
The Sun reports:
CELTIC boss Brendan Rodgers is set to add trusted analyst Jack Lyons to his backroom staff.
The Scot followed the Hoops boss to Leicester City in 2019 but is poised to return. Lyons was picked up by Rodgers from his tactical blog during his first spell at the Hoops.
The then Parkhead boss was so impressed with his work he brought the web guru in-house and appointed him opposition scout to follow Raith Rovers and Falkirk boss John McGlynn.
But he also persuaded him to abandon Lennoxtown for Leicester in 2019 – where he boosted the likes of James Maddison’s performances. The former blogger was employed in a first-team post-match analyst’s role at the King Power Stadium.
With the squad back from Japan and Maik Nawrocki joining the Korean duo of Kwon Hyeok-kyu and Yang Hyun-jun there is a freshness about the Celtic squad, boosted by the anticipated return from injury of Cameron Carter-Vickers.
On Saturday the manager will get another opportunity to see his ideas in action when Celtic take on Wolves in Dublin with the hoops a week closer to their first competitive match of the season.
With no midweek matches during August the new manager will make the most of training sessions as he gets down to serious work with the squad without the high pressure distractions of Champions League qualifiers.
