Adam Brooks has explained why he turned down a contract with Celtic to join Inverness Caley Thistle.

After two seasons playing in the Lowland League the future looked uncertain for the 19-year-old striker with a third season in the 5th/6th tier of Scottish football not going to do anything for his game.

Caley Thistle have a clear pathway to first team football with Brooks expected to be featuring for a side with a realistic chance of promotion from The Championship with 36 league matches and three cup competitions starting next weekend with a Viaplay Cup group that includes Dundee ahead of an SPFL opener at home to Queens Park.

The Inverness Courier reports Brooks saying:

Obviously speaking to Billy and saying this could be a pathway for a first team opportunity, to just get away and play football and hopefully take my career to the next level.

I see this as a challenge, having a challenge like this is good for me and I can’t wait to hopefully go on and excel.

It was clear to see when I spoke to Billy the ambition this year is to get up. After watching the game today I have the belief that we can go up. Hopefully I will be part of that.

I enjoyed last year with Celtic B, I picked up some confidence and felt that it was the time to go and push on to another level and see if I could kick on from there.

Brooks joined Celtic as an 8-year-old and signed off with two ‘Kyogo-like’ goals at Ibrox as the young hoops won the Glasgow Cup.

Ben Summers and Rocco Vata were team-mates that night, breaking into the first team squad looks to be a step too far for the duo with careful thought needed over where they can go out on loan in the season ahead.
