It could turn ugly pretty quickly- Chris Sutton’s Celtic warning

Chris Sutton has admitted that there is a danger that things could get ugly with Brendan Rodgers back in charge of Celtic.

When Ange Postecoglou’s departure was announced the former Leicester boss wasn’t high up in the list of possible successors but once the alternatives were known the mood towards Rodgers basically flipped.

The circumstances of his move to Leicester were viewed differently as Postecoglou settled in to life at Spurs with neither Enzo Maresca or Kjetil Knetsen having much on their pedigree to suggest that they were Celtic material.

By default or whatever Rodgers returned to Celtic on a three year contract but the heavy investment that was expected hasn’t materialised with a run of injuries and disappointing performances adding to a feeling of unrest.

Sutton was surprised to see Rodgers back at Celtic, in his role with Sky Sports he interviewed the ‘new’ boss at Lennoxtown but there is no denying that Celtic haven’t had the start that was anticipated when the Irishman agreed to replace Postecoglou.

Listening to Sutton on BBC Five Live tonight, the Daily Record reports the former Celtic striker saying:

I remember when you put it to me about Brendan Rodgers returning and I said ‘absolutely no chance.’ Anyway, he’s gone back there and it’s getting a little bit…dare I say ‘ugly?’

Just because of Celtic’s iffy start to the season. They’re top of the league but I’m just telling you there are Celtic supporters who probably were quiet because he was the best candidate to take the job.

But with the way he left before, it could turn ugly pretty quickly especially if they get walloped at Ibrox. They haven’t done anywhere near enough work in the transfer market in terms of signings.

The next six days will go a long way to defining Celtic’s season. If there is no significant transfer business completed followed by a defeat at Ibrox the Champions League could quickly become a real burden rather than a bonus.

I’d rather see the wrath of the fans turning on the board, they’re the real problem. Hoarding money for what, higher dividends?

Even if we lose at Ibrox and Rodgers improve the team we will still drop points so will they so time will tell one day at a time, keep the faith

Talk about defeatism, give it a rest ffs. Sure Killie turned us over and the Saints parked the it bus at Parkhead but don’t lose heart.
Hopefully they’ll get stuffed on Wednesday night and will lose all their so-called confidence. I’m quietly confident we will do the business. What we don’t need is Celtic fans talking down our chances.

Really is that your best shot shouting for sevco to lose on Wednesday,we have bigger fish to fry and worry about, goaless games against nickel&dime teams for a start think about that.

In the words of DONALD TRUMP bye bye,Roy has lost the dressing room and the plot.KERCHING£!
Another pay off coming his way,he will be gone this time next week with Lennon the ALKIE taking back over again,Mr McVittie has him already lined up,both spotted on the golf course in the last few days.

Desmond needs to sell the club to someone with ambition.
We got a manager who blew 10 in a row and jumped ship mid season.
Peter Lawwell has wormed his way back in.
Now we have to watch Rodgers boring system of play that when falls apart he has no plan B.
So the club bought into a management system that plays against the strengths of our players.

Rogers will be sacked by Christmas and unless Lennon takes the Hibs job, he will be the next Desmond/Lawwell puppet in the dugout.

Maresca hasn’t dropped a point yet and Leicester City are top of the Championship….. I would have been highly sceptical of his appointment though, and wonder how a relative novice would have got on with our, ahem, ‘recruitment system’. BR seemed a much safer appointment, but if he’s back in a diminished role as head coach with little influence over signings, Sutton is completely right – if things don’t improve fairly quickly this could all go horribly wrong.

  • Terence Nova says:

To be in this situation with just days to go…is unacceptable…In fairness the injuries to our CBs are part of the game…and no one could have predicted that..but our current priorities seem baffling …Is Ralston good enough..??…Is Taylor good enough..??…Or Daizen…??…Or 3 others I could mention..??…In my opinion the answer is no….But at the end of the day the buck stops with BR…And he has his work cut out…big time.

Desmond sure knows how to run airports. But as to the Football Club, he doesn’t have a clue!
