Four years after slipping out of Ibrox Lee Wallace has finally been granted birthday recognition.

While Kyle Lafferty, Allan McGregor and Steve Davis bailed out in 2012 only to be welcomed back with open arms Waldo opted to TUPE over his contract to join Ally McCoist on coach trips to Annan, Peterhead, Forfar and of course Alloa.

The former Hearts defender picked up title winning medals for the Third and Second Divisions then was on board the Warburton Revolution, picking up a Scottish Cup runners-up medal at Hampden as Hibs fans celebrated with Sunshine on Leith belting out around the National Stadium.

Another Hampden visit in April 2018 virtually ended Waldo’s career as Graeme Murty went into meltdown following a 4-0 Scottish Cup defeat from Celtic that saw Andy Halliday humiliated by being substituted after 41 minutes with hoops supporters serenading the former Bradford and Livingston journeyman.

Wallace had been out injured since September, Kenny Miller was an unused substitute at Hampden but seemed to upset Murts in the postscript to the match.

While Halliday’s career lived on Wallace and Kenny Miller were disciplined by the club but were vindicated when they appealed to the SPFL and had their fines returned.

Miller had left the club but there was just three substitute appearances for Wallace under Steven Gerrard before he joined QPR as a free agent, reunited with Warburton.

Lots of former players enjoy roles back at Ibrox in hospitality or media duties but after retiring a year ago Wallace seemed to have been airbrushed out of sight- until today’s Birthday Wishes were tweeted.
