Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that any future transfer business will be recruiting from off the beaten track.

Celtic’s first four signings of the summer came from Norway, Australia and two from South Korea before they brought in two defenders from Poland and Sweden.

With nine days left of the transfer window there is an expectation that the squad will be significantly bolstered but it is unlikely that it will be known qualities arriving at the club.

Moussa Dembele from Fulham and Aston Villa’s Scott Sinclair made a serious impact when Rodgers was in charge first time around but similar moves are unlikely.

Asked if it was now more difficult to recruit players from England Rodgers told the Daily Mail:

Very. I think that’s why you see the strategy of (recruitment chief) Mark (Lawwell) and the guys, going to markets that were maybe untouched and the deals you can get in.

You look at the Premier League or even the Championship. It’s a very expensive market for players and wages.

That is a real challenge for clubs like ourselves. Coming back here, that was something I had to understand better, and why I took that time to decide.

The club has to be sustainable while being successful. But it’s understanding where it is at in terms of what you can and can’t do.

I’ll always work with the players the club provide me and try to develop them to be best they possibly can. That hopefully makes the club successful and allows them to move on, make money and we go again.

Gustaf Lagerbielke looks in line for a significant role in the next couple of games with Maik Nawrocki joining Cameron Carter-Vickers on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

On the plus side it seems like Alistair Johnston is in line for his first appearance of the season in Saturday’s home match against St Johnstone.

I hope that puts an end to the moneymania and hysterical reactions to a single League Cup defeat. Success in Europe is a long-term project.

Long term project indeed – like 100 years from now! There’s simply no ambition, only con talk and an ever-spinning wheel of buy cheap, sell for a profit. It’s a business more than a football club. Wait till they go to Ibrox, they’ll get taken apart in their present state and form. Shocking and disappointing to hear a manager speak like the boss of a lowly pub team. I don’t know why punters pay exorbitant season ticket prices every year to get that garbage fed to them in return. The only European progression Celtic will see this year is being knocked out of the competition quicker than last year. I’m sick to death of hearing the same old, same old “we have to work within out means” when the truth is the Board are just mean.

We’re being taken for mugs by pistol Pete and his son . Why Brendan came back into this scenario god only knows . They’re making a total clown out of him and the faithful support. Sickening to watch this charade.

    Absolutely spot on, Adoo.

Nice way to dampen any ambitions that bassa lawell normalised this bs ” business model’ if they ain’t going spend it on players show some forward planning and build a new man stand to match the north stand with the stadium symetrical it hold72,000!! With both corners took up to as they restricted views are a total embarrassment! 25 years now since the 3 stands were built!! And we have plenty room for the work we must have the most space to any club in UK and any other would have done this 2decades ago!!But that will never happen under these bassas no ambition whatsoever and they just love keeping ” Der Hun” competive it’s pathetic but soul destroying !Who they really trying to fool well know our great club through our real worldwide fanbase could be a million times more! They like the status quo ! Not us! It’s sickening! We need that board out and our club back! If only we had a fegus I don’t want us to spend for sake of it but this talk is depressing!!

We can get excellent value for money & quality players from France, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Czech Republic, Denmark, Norway.

We don’t NEED the EPL or Championship players & stupid wages.

The players are there, just have to look for them
