Ianis Hagi is on his way to Alaves without a penny coming in to boost Micky Beale’s transfer warchest.

Reported interest from Barcelona, Spurs and Manchester City has regularly been created by the Romanian media with the Scottish press happy to spin the message that there is a highly rated star playing at Ibrox.

After suffering a knee injury that ruled him out foa year Hagi was given a contract extension last year by Beale and made his first team comeback last January against St Johnstone.

Todd Cantwell, Nico Raskin, Kieran Dowell, Jose Cifuentes and Sam Lammers have been brought in to the Ibrox midfield with Hagi and Glen Kamara getting pushed out the door.

Despite haggling for transfer fees no one is prepared to pay money for someone whose fitness is doubted by his manager with The Athletic reporting:

Rangers midfielder Ianis Hagi is close to joining La Liga side Alaves on a season-long loan. There is no loan fee or option to buy involved in the deal. A medical has been scheduled.

Hagi has only made two appearances from the bench this season and was omitted from the squad that beat Ross County 2-0 on Saturday.

The Romanian international was also left out of Rangers’ Champions League squad to face PSV Eindhoven.

After joining on an initial loan deal in January Hagi has gone on to make 98 appearances for Rangers, but he ruptured both his anterior crucial ligament and medial cruciate ligament in January 2022.

He made his return to the field in January this year but has only started four times and expressed his frustration at his limited minutes under manager Michael Beale after featuring in a 3-0 League Cup win over Greenock Morton this month.

It seems that there are no Tillman clauses in the loan deal.

Despite months of trailing there is absolutely no sign that Leeds United are about to spend £5.5m on Kamara.
