Six matches into the SPFL season one of the longest running sagas is still going strong.
Going back to January 2022, when Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Stephen Glass were in the dug-outs, Kevin Clancy pointed to the penalty spot with Lewis Ferguson sending his shot past Allan McGregor.
Van Bronckhorst, Glass, McGregor and Ferguson won’t be involved in Saturday’s match between the same two clubs but Steven McLean will be charged with extending that 61 match run without conceding a penalty in the SPFL.
In almost every SPFL match there are strong penalty claims against Micky Beale’s side, turned down.
Against Celtic on September 3 Kyogo Furuhashi was pushed to the ground by the tag team of Jack Butland and Connor Goldson, VAR didn’t bother taking a look.
At Johnstone Chris Kane was manhandled by Tom Lawrence then tripped by Butland, VAR reviewed both incidents and told Nick Walsh to play on.
James Tavernier had a push on a Motherwell forward on Saturday, typically Alan Muir chose to ignore it.
Last season in 10 European matches four penalties were awarded against van Bronckhorst’s team.
Rangers have conceded 4 penalties in the league in nearly 4 years.
Every other club in the Scottish Premiership conceded more than 4 penalties each last season. https://t.co/uOZaWJIpxr pic.twitter.com/5fzkUOSgB8
