Martindale at a loss as Collum and Walsh save the day for Beale

Willie Collum and Nick Walsh threw a lifeline to Micky Beale as his side beat Livingston 4-0 at home to reach the semi-finals of the Viaplay Cup.

Sunday’s win over Motherwell was marked by the full time reaction as fans booed and jeered the home side after they had hung on to defy their opponents as they threw everything at it in the last 20 minutes.

The toxic reaction inside Ibrox and the desperation across social media for change at the top of the club piled the pressure on to get a result against Livingston.

Ten minutes into the match Abdallah Sima barely even tried to disguise his push on Jamie Bandon and almost seemed to stop running before curling his shot into the net.

No one expected the goal to stand but Collum saw nothing wrong with it, after a token VAR review the goal stood with Livingston a goal down with the angry bears having less to complain about.

After losing three more goals in the second half The Sun reports David Martindale saying:

I think the first goal is a foul, I’ve watched it back myself, there’s clear hands on and it’s a push – not a huge one – but when you’re running with momentum and get a push you are going to fall.

For the life of me I don’t know how we haven’t got a foul…the first goal hurts us, it spooks us.

I’m disappointed because as it went to VAR review it was in the phase of play that led to the goal, my understanding was it doesn’t have to be clear and obvious if it leads to taking the ball and putting it in the back of your net.

I thought it would get overturned, and it never. I don’t think anyone goes out to make bad decisions, so we’ve got the technology but it comes down to the opinions of people making the decisions.

Some times the decisions fall your way, sometimes they don’t. Ibrox away, quarter-final, I’ve not seen many of them given to be honest.

No officials go out to get it wrong, but I can’t believe it’s not a foul. I’ll not be contacting anyone.
