Sky Sports push Celtic match back to create Champions League fixture congestion

Celtic will face three vital games in seven days after the SPFL agreed to push the visit to Tynecastle back 24 hours.

Originally scheduled for Saturday October 21 the Tynecastle clash will be played the following day followed by a home match with Athletico Madrid on October 25 with another trip to Edinburgh to face Hibs on October 28.

As soon as the fixtures were published Celtic fans noticed successive away matches in Edinburgh either side of a midweek Champions League tie.

Now Sky Sports and the SPFL has concentrated that run of fixtures into seven days with the Edinburgh trips Celtic’s most difficult domestic game before the turn of the year. Televising the Hibs match would have assisted the hoops preparations in the middle of busy run of fixtures.

Before the Tynecastle trip there is an international break with Scotland facing France in a friendly on October 17, five days after the European Championship qualifier away to Spain.

Celtic’s home match with Aberdeen will be shown live by Sky with a 2,30pm kick off on Sunday November 12.
