Watch how Alan Muir bailed out James Tavernier and Micky Beale

Alan Muir came to the rescue of Micky Beale yesterday as the under fire Ibrox boss delays his inevitable sacking from Ibrox.

A laboured win over Motherwell on Sunday was topped off after the match when Beale turned on his players claiming that he wasn’t happy with what he had been watching from the first minute.

It was an incredible naïve rant from a rookie boss who is fully dependent on the players to retain his job. Beale was appointed last November with his predecessor lasting 366 days in the job.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst was sacked by the Chairman and CEO that appointed him after he delivered a trophy win, European final and Champions League place. Beale has none of that to call on with John Bennett and James Bisgrove appointed subsequent to Beale walking out on QPR.

Yesterday’s post-match rant confirms that Beale has lost the dressing room however he can always rely on honest mistakes with Muir making it 61 SPFL matches without a penalty being awarded against the 2012 Tribute Act.

With James Tavernier again hopefully out of position Brodie Spencer had a clear run at Jack Butland’s goal. The panic stricken former Wigan ace crashes into the back of his opponent with Muir quick to blow the whistle rather than let the move come to a conclusion before checking on VAR.

On Sportscene last night Lee McCulloch said: “ It is soft. The referee does the pulling gesture and he has not pulled him at all.”
