Kevin Kyle has hit back at comparisons made to Ibrox flop Cyriel Dessers.

Eleven years ago the former Scotland striker was leading the line for the Tribute Act as they powered their way to the Third Division title.

Montrose, Elgin, Peterhead and East Stirling had no answer to Kyle as he rampaged through the bottom tier of Scottish football assisted by Ian Black, Lee McCulloch and Dean Shiels.

There was a set-back when Stirling Albion beat the Tribute Act 1-0 but there was a title medal to be collected as the journey was launched towards winning two domestic trophies in 11 years.

At £4m, Dessers has had a horrendous start to his career in Scottish football, scoring twice in 13 appearances with both of them coming from deflections.

That prompted one caller to Radio Clyde to brand the former Cremonese forward as the Nigerian Kevin Kyle but the taxi driver and podcast host wasn’t prepared to sit back and take that level of abuse without striking back.

The Sun reports:

As Si Ferry and Andy Halliday poked fun at his expense, Kyle blasted: “I tell you f***** what, Rangers would be lucky to have me right now, I’ll be honest with you. I’m the one that’s laughing.”

And he went on: “I nearly texted you [Andy Halliday] to get the number for Clyde One so I could phone in.

“I was going to call up and say ‘How you doing Gordon, It’s the Scottish Cyriel Dessers here’.

Dessers is under contract until 2027 which will be one of the first problems that Beale’s successor has to deal with.
