Kris Boyd on the Ibrox boardroom split

A fortnight after losing at home to Aberdeen there is still no sign of a manager being appointed at Ibrox.

The media messengers are still relaying the news about preferred candidates, extensive talks, interviews ongoing etc etc but even Kris Boyd can see through the smoke and mirrors that the bears are being served up.

The Sky Sports pundit prefers to believe that the Ibrox boardroom is split over who to appoint, the other option is that they have been unable to put together an offer attractive enough for Philippe Clemente or Kevin Muscat to sign.

Clemente has been unemployed since being sacked by Monaco in June after they finished sixth in Ligue 1 under new boss Adi Hutter.

Yokohama F Marinos boss Muscat is desperate to keep tagging on to Ange Postecoglou but the former Celtic boss has probably briefed his former assistant that things are much changed at Ibrox from the days when token contracts went through at the SPFL and SFA while the cash poured into offshore Trusts that were later deemed to be disguised remuneration.

Sharing his thoughts with The Sun, Boyd explains:

To be honest, I thought Rangers would have had Michael Beale’s successor in place by now.

Still, providing the appointment turns out to be the right one, then taking their time might be no bad thing.

The longer the search goes on, the more you wonder what the hold-up has been.

Clement has been out of work since leaving Monaco in June, so if he really wanted the gig then you’d think he would be in Glasgow already.

Muscat hinted the second leg of the cup semi-final with Yokohama F. Marinos this weekend could be his last game in Japan.

From the outside looking in, it’s clear the Gers board is split down the middle on who to appoint. If agreement was unanimous, then someone would be in the dugout right now — but that is clearly not the case.

It is looking increasingly likely that Steve Davis and Alex Rae will be in charge against Hibs a week today with Billy Davies and Derek McInnes on stand-by.
