Graeme Souness has piled the pressure on James Bisgrove, claiming that the Ibrox vacancy will attract a big man for a big job.

The former Blackburn Rovers boss has recently been taking an increasing interest in the Ibrox Tribute Act, even getting as far as discussing taking up a mystery role.

While Bisgrove wanted the kudos of having Souness lend legitimacy to the club on a token salary, brogues and a blazer held little appeal to the money driven former Sky Sports pundit.

Without a Director of Football to point the way Bisgrove is trying to recruit Micky Beale’s successor but has already been knocked back by Graham Potter and Frank Lampard.

Turning his attention to Ibrox matters, in the Daily Mail Souness writes:

In hindsight, it was an enormous ask for Michael Beale, a rookie manager, to take over at a giant club like Rangers.

It went well for me in Glasgow, though it was the most difficult job I had in 20 years of management because of the expectation levels, the pressures and the unyielding spotlight.

And I have to say that it would be the same for any Celtic boss. Michael lost his job after three defeats in seven and the one which will have hurt most was losing to Celtic at home.

Getting recruitment right is the top priority for any boss but unfortunately for Michael, his signings haven’t turned up yet this season.

Rangers and Celtic are operating with TV incomes of around £3million, while playing to full houses of around 60,000.

I live on the south coast, where Bournemouth get gates of 11,000, and their TV revenue is around £100m. For the Rangers and Celtic manager, it’s all of the pressure and a fraction of the money.

Though the Premier League is still the No 1 destination for any aspiring coach, I’m sure Rangers will attract a big man for what is a big, big job.

Since his time at the club, which ended more than 30 years ago, Ibrox has had a capacity of 50,000, not the 60,000 Souness claims.

Without a top salary in the region of £3m a year it is difficult to see any credible manager going near the car crash vacated by Beale.

I know sevco announced a cost-cutting shake up around recruitment,

but should the Blue Room prioritise filling the Sporting Director role?

IF they appoint a new manager ASAP, will he – like Beale – decide on transfers?

IF that’s the case then a Beale II scenario could be just a matter of time?

Plus, a Sporting Director could have provided the football-specific experience / knowledge / contacts

which is currently lacking in the Blue Room?

Souness, Sevco and The Daily Mail…

A marriage made in heaven for them – but a marriage made in hell to the rest of society !

A big man for a big job…. Fatty Arbuckle perhaps?
