Five months after joining Celtic Marco Tilio is still waiting for his hoops debut, or even a place on the bench.

Next week the former Melbourne City man gets the chance of some fairly serious game time with Australia’s u-23 side playing two friendlies in Saudi Arabia.

A year ago Tilio was heading to the World Cup Finals in Qatar but next week’s international double header will be a welcome opportunity to get some playing time and catch up with some familiar faces.

In Australia the Olympics is a big deal, second only to the World Cup Finals, providing invaluable experience to bridge the gap towards the Socceroos.

With Luis Palma in scoring form and Yang Hyun-jun starting to make inroads towards regular action Tilio has his work cut out to make anything from this season.

A Celtic XI will play Dundee in a testimonial match on Thursday November 16 but two matches in quick succession in Saudi Arabia will give Tilio a change of scenery as well as more playing time.

Going out on loan from Celtic in January looks the next stage in the winger’s career as he attempts to make his mark in Europe after arriving in Scotland with an injury that ruled him out for two critical months.
