Incredible, he should be embarrassed- Grant and Cuddihy call out John Beaton

Peter Grant and Paul Cuddihy spoke for many Celtic fans as they watched Kyogo Furuhashi get booked by John Beaton last night.

Unfortunately that is as close as you’ll get to criticism of SFA officials from someone at Celtic.

Even the crusty old ‘surprised and disappointed’ template statement rarely gets aired with Michael Nicholson telling shareholders last season to prepare for teething issues with VAR. A year on match officials are still using that free pass to do as they like.

Kyogo’s booking is self explanatory, if action is to be taken it is to award Celtic an indirect free kick for obstruction, twice he was blocked by Marcus Fraser to allow Zak Hemmings to time waste.

With a booking Beaton managed to use up a minute with the Celtic striker knowing that one misplaced challenge and he’ll be sent off and suspended for Saturday’s match away to Ross County.

Grant: He has been blocked from running, and you are not supposed to be able to do that. He has stopped in front of the player. They have done it from kick-off any time it is played back and it is the defender’s fault. I find it incredible the referee has given a booking for that, absolutely incredible. He should be embarrassed.

Cuddihy: I think he has booked him for kicking the player. But he views that as a booking.

Grant: If he is kicking the player, it’s an ordering off. You can’t stop somebody running.
