Unusually, despite effectively being in charge for a 6-0 defeat there was very little criticism of Brendan Rodgers following last night’s Champions League defeat from Atletico Madrid.

Back in August the Irishman wisely made it clear that his job was to work with and coach the players provided by the club. With Mark Lawwell fronting that up Rodgers has more than just his hands tied behind his back as he ventures into Europe.

Towards the end of last season Celtic had about six good players with another six or seven that could do a decent job.

Across social media it was acknowledged that three first team starters were required. Not players costing £10-15m but those in the same bracket as Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers. There was no clamour for more projects or wishful punts, shots in the dark.

No quality was brought in by Lawwell Junior, much like his Daddy’s efforts over the previous decade.

Luis Palma has added something but is nowhere near Jota levels, the rest have generally been spared from Champions League humiliations.

The loss of the former Benfica man alongside Aaron Mooy and Carl Starfelt hasn’t been addressed. When you add in injuries to Liel Abada and Reo Hatate there is very little quality left in the first team squad- the one that filled 33 places in the official team picture.

By substituting Kyogo Furuhashi and Callum McGregor last night Rodgers sent out a distress flare to the boardroom.

Next summer Matt O’Riley will almost certainly be sold, there could be offers eagerly accepted by the board for Carter-Vickers, Kyogo and Hatate.

Rodgers has to draw the line in January, if he doesn’t insist on quality and substance as Lawwell dumps another job-lot of projects on the payroll then the manager becomes a part of the problem alongside the Grey Brigade in the boardroom.

Look at that fat bastard LIEWELL at the front of all the PONCES.
As the advert goes I’m luvin it,while every other club in European football have moved into the digital age we are stuck in a time warp with betamax style technology in football terms.
    We are a nickel&dime team with nickel&dime players a nickel&dime manager and VERY MUCH A NICKEL&DIME BOARD.
We are once again the laughing stock of European football and believe it or BORDERING SEVCO style results here.
As I said on THOUSANDS of occasions before until the board are gone we are stuck in GROUNDHOG DAY.

Get the protests done NOW get the BOYCOTTING done NOW,if not then dry your eyes and just on with giving those FAT BASTARDS at the top of this article in the photo as much money as you can throw at them.

Oh and you can forget the league sevco will be claiming that,an Aberdeen win against us this weekend should be the icing on the cake, and the result that finally sees Roy walk out the door.

And let’s have no more digs at sevco while our own house is sitting there burning down.

    It’s all about the timing…?

    1) The Board – rightly or wrongly – picked a very public fight with a section of the

support. It then banned its own paying customers: a club open to all!

    2) The Board has now – unwittingly – picked a fight with the whole support!

The Board has painted itself into a corner with yet another Euro disaster.

We were led to believe that ‘progress in Europe’ was now a Board ambition,

and a reason for bringing BR nack.

Our own eyes told us a different story during the transfer window.

Last night’s 6-0 humiliation was just further validation that we were right.

The Board has blatantly taken advantage of the support.

And as much as I dislike PL, it’s not just him that’s the probelm.

The elusive CEO Nicholson is NOT a leader for change.

The rest of the Board are complicit in the lack of drfive / change / ambition.

It’s a systemic problem with CFC leadership, IMO.

And if the GB can’t get inside the stadium, they might protest against the Board outside?

Hell mend the Board: OUR club deserves much better! 🙁

If big Ange or any other manager may come calling in the January window for guys like Kyogo and CCV for example , then last night’s dire performance in Spain opened the door and welcomed them inside . Players are not fools . They know when the board is at the penny pinching again and would be perfectly entitled to think that as long as they play in the hoops shirts , nothing will change and it’s time to move on . In other words what’s the point in remaining at a club with lack of ambition whose ‘ suits ‘ make up players minds for them automatically .

  • Terence Nova says:

Where do you start with this…??

Well first up…The Board needs to go…Not fit for purpose.

And are the reason I gave up my Season Ticket.

BR hasn’t got a leg to stand on…Took the job knowing he wouldn’t be signing the players…Instead he is asked to improve the players who are brought in by a suit who has no football knowledge.. What a shit decision that was…No sympathy from me BR.

The only thing I will say on the subject…is…Who are these “quality players ” that we miss out on ?
Would “quality players” want to come and play in arguably the worst senior football league in Europe ?

    I’d love to hear names…seriously.

    Back to last night ‘though…

We’ll never know what the score would have been if Daizen hadn’t been sent off…Which, incidentally, based on the modern game…was a Red card offence…IMO.

    As for the outcome…

The gulf in class is massive…Our technical abilities, by Scottish standards, are very good…but by CL standards…are pretty poor…and we end up chasing shadows.

And its not just physical …its mental as well…Really good players have confidence in their ability…lesser players don’t…and it shows.

No one takes any praise for last night…but some need exposed.

    O’Riley…dreadful…McGregor…looks burned out…Taylor …out of his depth…Could go on…but I’ve made my point.
And I agree with an earlier post…Time to lay off Sevco and concentrate on our problems…Before its too late.

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

I just want Europe over and out – Done with – Before it affects a CRITICAL title race…

Make no mistake about this – If Sevco smell blood and nick that League and the trappings that come with it, EVERY SINGLE PENNY they earn and more will be spent on the team and they will keep their jackboots on the throat of Celtic for a helluva long time…

They won’t be Mr Nice Guy to us the way we are to them for sure !

  • harold shand says:

After the appalling transfer window this was always on the cards

Fans saying we could finish 2nd were totally deluding themselves

After years and years of abject failure in Europe . The board have conditioned fans into thinking that getting beat but playing good for 40 minutes is doing well

  • Kevin Lee says:

Beating Heart this is the worst performance that this guy has ever played flaps at every corner/crosses does star jumps in a crowded box for no apparent reason doesn’t even dive incase he gets his knees dirty hopeless with the ball at his feet puts his own players under pressure with sloppy passes from his box makes the odd good save but isn’t that his job a whole clear out is needed in January start building from the back by getting rid of this charlatan
