Celtic left it late to overcome St Mirren as they completed the first batch of fixtures with a five point lead at the top of the SPFL Premiership.

Oh Hyeon-gyu scored his first goal of the season in the 83rd minute to overcome St Mirren with Brendan Rodgers forced to dig deep into his squad.

Cameron Carter-Vickers was left out of the squad to manage a knee issue with Daizen Maeda starting on the bench. With Liel Abada and Reo Hatate missing through injury it was an unusual looking Celtic side that fell behind in the seventh minute to a header from Conor McMenamin.

David Turnbull equalised in the 18th minute with a great shot from the edge of the penalty box but sent a penalty kick against the post as the first half finished on level terms.

Rodgers made four changes as the second half evolved, with seven minutes of the 90 left to play Kyogo Furuhashi and Odin Thiago-Holm combined to create an opening for Oh who took one touch then slammed his shot into the net from 10 yards out.

It was far from a vintage performance from Celtic but there was a decent contribution from Oh, Holm and Yang Hyun-jun which adds a little depth to the squad which has looked fairly thin in recent weeks.
