Celtic suffered a 4-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid this afternoon in the UEFA Youth League.

After four matches the young hoops have picked up one point highlighting the gap between playing in the Lowland League in-between facing up to some of the elite European academies.

Atletico had won 2-0 a fortnight ago in Glasgow, today they were 4-0 up after 64 minutes with Celtic managing to avoid any further damage in the remaining 26 minutes.

With two matches left in the group Celtic have pride to salvage but once they face Lazio and Feyenoord it is back to the depressing routine of playing against clubs such as Cumbernauld Colts, Edinburgh University, Cowdenbeath and Berwick Rangers.

On Saturday Celtic B take on Broomhill with the only consolation being that the match will be played on a grass pitch at Dumbarton.

When Duncan Ferguson took charge of Inverness Caley Thistle there was speculation after a phone call to Brendan Rodgers that some Celtic players would go out on loan to the Championship side.

The truth is that the u-19 side/B team doesn’t have anyone ready to play at that level after Ben McPherson and Ben Summers went out on loan to Queens Park and Dunfermline.

CELTIC: McLean, Dede (Mackenzie 68), Frame, Bonetig (Quinn 68), Agbaire, Robertson, Ure (Thomson 68), Carse, Kelly (Davidson 83), Vata, Dobbie (Cummings 46)

Subs: Rice, Bonnar
