Stephen McGowan thinks that there is a strong possibility that Tiago Araujo will join Celtic from Estoril during the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old is described as a left-back or left wing-back, moving to Estoril in July 2022 with Benfica believed to have a sell-on clause in the move. Celtic’s dealings over Jota would suggest that the Lisbon side rarely get caught out with players leaving their academy.

Brendan Rodgers has gone on record as looking for quality and experienced players but with less than 50 top flight appearances in Portugal Araujo’s profile matches in with most of Celtic’s summer signings.

I think that the Portuguese guy, Tiago Araujo, he plays for Estoril, the former Benfica player, I think that he is a very strong possibility for Celtic in January.

A wing-back, I think that he can get forward, whether he can defend is the question of course, I suspect that is one that might happen.

This time last year Celtic had already announced the signings of Alistair Johnston and Yuki Kobayashi, as soon as the January window opened their moves were registered with the Canadian making his debut at Ibrox on January 2.

So far there has been nothing confirmed by Celtic but over the last month Rodgers has been very clear that the team requires ready made first team players rather than project signings.

When it comes to the inner workings of Celtic McGowan has a long track record of being very, very accurate, especially with transfer activity in and out.

IF we do have a signing – or signings – identified for January,

then it would make sense to announce them, ideally,

in the days leading up to the derby game?

A good news story for our club,

and it would add a wee bit more pressure onto the impoverished sevco. 🙂

If there is any truth in this possible signing as a potential wing back, does this possibly mean that Rodgers has a potential change to team set up in mind?
Could Maeda do a similar job on the right side, to keep the balance right within the team, with the potential 3CB option?
Sounds a surprising decision to just be an upgrade upon Taylor in the LB position, without a change of shape in mind imo
