The Ibrox boo-boys were spoiled for choice last night as they watched their heroes toil to a 1-1 draw against ARIS Limassol.
Going into the match a win would have guaranteed Europa League football in the new year, this morning it looks like a win away to Real Betis will be required or it will be the Europa Conference in February to boost the coffers for Philippe Clement.
During the summer the media messengers explained the hidden brilliance of Sam Lammers, snatched from Atlanta for just £3.5m after Micky Beale recalled an outstanding performance against Chelsea’s youth side a decade ago.
Coming from Serie A, even though he was getting sent out on loan every season, the Dutchman wouldn’t have come cheaply with a Kemar Roofe type deal in the region of £45,000 a week likely with a switched on agent.
Beale tried Lammers as a striker in pre-season but quickly realised that the stats were accurate as he reinvented the new boy into a ‘Number 10’.
With no pace and little movement even in the Ibrox side Lammers stands out as being poor, for whatever reasons Philippe Clement has continued to play him in the crucial central role behind the only striker. Ahead of fans favourite, TikTok Todd.

Last night the simmering anger erupted into full on abuse when Todd Cantwell was substituted while Dessers remained on the pitch in his unique hide and seek role in the centre of the pitch.
Ten minutes into the second half Lammers was replaced by Tom Lawrence to bring the second biggest cheer of the night. The 26-year-old will require an exceptionally thick skin to see it through, his agent will require a miracle to find a better deal than the one waved in front of him by the Brains Behind Gerrard.
What’s he supposed to be? Number 10 that doesn’t score or create chances?
Can’t play wide as he’s no pace and no precision in crossing?
I’m at a loss to see what he’s supposed to be exactly?

Hard to remember a worst player than Lammers in a Rangers shirt.
Beale should be ashamed at his signing.— GRAHAM JOHNSTON (@GRAHAMJ16066021) December 1, 2023
Hate slamming players, but hope he never plays another game for our team.

i cant unsee this now , id rather have wee cecil from Braveheart than Lammers in the team.

Lammers is one of the worst Footballers I have ever seen. Clement after a good start is now struggling to figure it out. He needs a good attack minded Coach and to show Lammers and Dessers the door.

We have the Panenka penalty, the Cruyff turn and now the Lammers shot, he’s a footballing genius. pic.twitter.com/jvY5v2D2ws

If any other manager in the country came out with the excuse why his couldn’t beat Aris Limassol at home was that the players are tired because some of them have newborn babies , he would be ridiculed in the press and rightly so
I suppose we’ll all get to see now, just how good a manager
Clement really is?
He’s now got 2 regulars – Cantwell and Lammers – whose confidence
must be down in their boots.
…and yet the impoverished squad doesn’t have obviously decent alternatives…?
But Clement knew he had a poor squad to manage, at least through to January.
If he’s not getting funds to bring in a few of his own players in January,
then you could imagine Clement will not be a happy bear! 🙂
And who would blame him?
I would be OK if we bring in one, quality player at say, iro £5 to £10M
in January, to give our squad – and support – a much needed boost.
…and it will blow sevco out of the water, with their 1 or 2 loans at best?
Personally, I’d sign Shankland in January. He may want to go to iBrox but they haven’t got the paltry fee Hearts will demand. He isn’t the world’s greatest player but he would keep us in goals while the rest of the forward line is away at the Asian Championship, and then they could never sign him so he would never score the goals they so desperately need to catch up with us. Then 18 months later he could disappear off to a championship club in Engerlund. Job done.
Would be interesting to see if the current media clamour to get him in the Scotland team continued were he playing his club football in a green and white hooped shirt though……
I am reliably informed that Mr.Clement has someone who reads your blog every day…and reports back the findings , including the comments, to him. That being the case …I have to say that I totally disagree with your comments and information on Lammers…I think he’s a terrific player who is way ahead of his teammates in his thinking…and Mr.Clement would be crazy to drop him from being a first team pick….It would be madness.
