Butland image that exposes Robertson, Dallas, Allan and Maxwell

While the SFA, Viaplay Sport and especially Don Robertson and Andrew Dallas look the other way there is an increasing focus on the stoppage time incident at Hampden yesterday that denied Aberdeen the chance of a penalty to take the League Cup Final into extra time.

Michael Stewart saw something but his colleagues Rory Hamilton and Alan Hutton had the champagne on ice to join the celebrations inside Hampden as the former Manchester United requested a look at Leighton Clarkson’s corner kick.

Referee Robertson watched it in real time, Dallas had access to multiple cameras but none of them wanted to look at Jack Butland wiping out Duk as he prepared to score from four yards out.

The Ibrox keeper was badly caught out by the low delivery, as the ball passed him to Duk he panicked, stuck out his left leg to send the Aberdeen substitute to the deck where he was surrounded by opponents with the normally hesitant Borna Barisic leading the charge.

Robertson and Dallas allowed the incident to settle down, after a pause play restarted with a free kick awarded against Duk, presumably for doing his job and trying to score a goal in a cup final.

No Scottish referees will be involved in next summer’s European Championship Finals in Germany.
