Brendan Rodgers has praised the high level of intellect in the Celtic boardroom.

Ten days ago the Irishman was on the podium as the club hosted their 2023 AGM which delivered record turnover and profits on the back of a treble winning season. On the pitch this season has failed to live up to expectations.

An underwhelming transfer window and early exit from the League Cup were largely covered over by a 1-0 win at Ibrox at the start of September but Europe and in particular the Champions League is unforgiving.

Last season Celtic picked up two points on their return to the competition but with the exception of RB Leipzig away there were positives to take from every performance, fans had grounds for optimism.

This season’s early exit from a group without any genuine heavyweights has brought a dose of reality while exposing the failings of the summer transfer window.

Rodgers returned to Celtic in June, at Friday’s broadcast media conference he revealed that he was looking for four quality signings in the summer but will now have to wait on them arriving over the next couple of windows.

That seemed like a source of disappointment with his own Champions League CV under scrutiny but speaking to the Sunday papers the Glasgow Times found the hoops boss full of praise for his ultimate bosses:

When I think of how this board has stabilised the club over many, many years then it’s very hard to knock what they’ve done here.

There’s a high level of intellect on the board which has made the whole operation sustainable. Dermot [Desmond, majority shareholder] is someone who wakes up every morning thinking about Celtic and he goes to sleep every night thinking about Celtic as well. What the club has always tried to do is not to spend beyond their means.

Of course, it’s always about the next level and that’s something which is a big decision for any club but if you want to improve at that level then what you have to do is invest. That’s something that Dermot and the guys who run the club know.

With four weeks to go until the January transfer window opens Celtic fans will soon be able to see for themselves if the club is capable of delivering the quality signings that their manager is clearly looking for.

Erm, talking about high intellect , it would be remiss of me not to give a shout out to the old bunker nut himself ,Derek McInnes , the game’s biggest fraud ! His Kilmarnock side were pumped by Hearts at home yesterday ,yet on Thursday night he was at pitch side at Ibrox ,chatting up his no 1priority – the Rangers attempting to perform in Europe for TNT sports ….at least now Killie know where his priorities lie and always have been ? Rather than prepare professionally for the Saturday league game 2 days later ,he was accepting all the courtesy’s Ibrox could offer him . Kilmarnock FC must be delighted with their ‘manager’s’ intelligent inventiveness ? Not too smart …..is he ?

Celtic plc have zero ambitions in Europe. That is proven by our record in Europe.
They can disguise this by qualifying for the UCL, by winning the League. But making progress in the UCL is a step beyond their ambitions! European success is not a part of the Corporate Plan!
It is easy to see why, because it would take significant investment in the team and infrastructure, which Desmond is not willing to make.
He knows the limitations of the Club!
Qualification from the Group stage would bring prestige and possibly an increment in the UEFA Club index. But it would cost too much and so it is not worth it, so it is best left well alone!
Celtic fans will have to bide then and be grateful for what they have.
That bothers me because the fans have ambitions which are greater than those of the Board. There will always be anxiousness between what the fans expect and what the Board are willing, or able to, deliver!

P.S. Proselytised Hun Scummy Filth will read this and feel enlightened.
But what they forget is that their Club and their culture died!
      What’s to remember?
They’re coming out of their schools now and saying they are the masters.
Dirty illiterate, innumerate Hun Filth, they ought to know better!
