Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that there are no January transfer deals about to be announced by Celtic.

The hoops boss has been crystal clear in recent months about what his squad requires when the transfer window opens on Monday.

After giving his approval to seven project signings in the summer Rodgers found his squad badly lacking in experience when the combined effects of losing Jota, Aaron Mooy and Carl Starfelt and the absence of key players through injury took hold.

Following Celtic’s Champions League exit after losing in Lazio Rodgers revealed that when he took charge of Celtic he had wanted to add four quality signings- before anyone had left the club.

At a stretch Luis Palma could be included as a quality signing but none of the other summer arrivals have made any impact with Marco Tilio and Kwon Hyeok-kyu yet to start a match.

Asked whether there were January deals about to be announced, Rodgers told The Scotsman:

Not yet, not that I’m aware of. I don’t think there are any who’ll be right in at the beginning. I think every coach would want them in on the first day but they’ll be in when they are ready to be in, and if they are at the level to be in.

Two years ago Celtic announced the signings of Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda and Yosuke Ideguchi on the final day of 2021, a year ago Alistair Johnstone was signed up, training with his new team mates and ready to make his debut at Ibrox on January 2.

Back in June Rodgers praised the brilliant work that Mark Lawwell had carried out on recruitment but it seems that there has been no arrivals put in place since the summer window closed.

It seems that mentioning ‘if they are at the level to be in’ could be causing an issue with Rodgers requiring ready made starters rather than projects to be developed into first team players.

  • Murph says:

It’s quite obvious that the fans are the problem. They keep funding this bullshit.
Lawwell has implemented what has been the same failed recruitment strategy since 2003. By project players hoping that one out of the ten makes the grade whilst champions league money goes down the drain. Every year.

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

I am one that stopped funding the bullshit a while back Murph…

I don’t regret it one little bit primarily due to the plain sight cheating and the silence from cowardly men in grey suits that simply should be yellow instead –

I still buy Celtic club merchandise though…

But if we lose this critical title (there’s every opportunity you know) then that’ll be under review as well –

And all because of the cowardly silence on the cheating…

If only, If only we had the confident and club loving board Sevco do – If only, If only !

  • Neil Smith says:

It’s a worry this, manager talking plainly saying this, clearly not happy. Bit worried it’ll impact today and indeed beyond if January a Xfer wash out.

  • TicToc says:

    Oh FFS!

So just what does Lawwell (jnr) add to (get paid for) at Celtic FC?

Is the answer “just like his da, fukk all”?

But how they can reward themselves for failure.

Remember Lawwell (snr) is also on the salary committee. Just watch his son’s salary sky-rocket. Fukk it. Enough of these cheats is enough. They SHOULD all be at Ibrox……

We cannot let this continue, unite as freedom fighters do, and free the glorious Glasgow Celtic FC from these pieces of shit.

Make CP so obviously unwelcoming EVERY time any of them shows face.

    Aye, cometh the hour……….

THAT apart, COYBIG today, show them who we are, “this is our city, these are our colours”

    • Terence Nova says:

Hi TicToc…sorry for delay in replying to your query…

Mini Lawwell is indeed Mark…who should be nowhere near our Club…and the point I was trying to make was…

That reported transfer, to a “normal” person, was utter rubbish…but with Mark’s track record…all things are possible.

I’m still not clear what BR’s role in these signings are…I know he suggests he has the final word…but I’m not so sure.

Anyway…given that we’ve signed Asian players and ought to have known about their potential International commitments…You would think that contingency plans would be in place…

      Aye you would think !!

Anyway…Bring on the Sevco and put them back in their box.
      ‘Mon the Hoops.

  • Redmond says:

This board only care about ££ (mostly their own ££) so the best place to hit them is in the pocket – stop buying merch for a start, stay away from selected games/ stage walkouts… They need to go, taking the absolute pi#@ for years and now paying themselves PL wages for doing so, especially during a cost of living crisis… Brass neck/blow torch material

  • Stevie says:

It’s the “not that I’m aware of ” bit that bothers me…?

  • Jack says:

I can’t believe a confessed Celtic supporter or Web would print this on the morn of a Glasgow derby Rodgers won’t bring in no better than we have we gave two top players coming back from injury be like new players we have a big pool some bought in haste now through no fault of there on these players are on good wages so Celtic have to compensate to move players on even at our worst injury depleting Rodgers choice he didn’t use those players and it told in Kilmarnock game with worst performance in years Rodgers will not play players that are not shown him they are not up to playing for Celtic Rodgers 16players top picks then the rest have to prove they are better than those trusted players it frustrates supporters and more so Rodgers and our coaches that we they can’t improve some players why always write the negative about our club

Editor: Stick to CQN for sugar coated crap about our wonderful chairman (and family) and tales of a club that is envied by others across the world. This site deals in reality, unfortunately for some.

    • Jas says:

Every fan site, bar none, are getting totally frustrated by the suits and their priorities.
Could there be a campaign along the lines of Celts for Change?
DD ain’t coming down from his ivory tower, he doesn’t give a monkeys about the most important people at any club, the fans.
If we do go on to allow Sevco to win this title then the Lawwells should be chased, that will only happen if the 50,000 ST holders refuse to cough up in April, its our only weapon.

  • DixieD says:

So you have no concerns about what Rodgers said at his press conf?? This transfer window is critical to us winning this league and BR says he’s not aware of any deals almost being finalised.

If the rangers win this league they get access to the revamped CL and all the cash (estimated at £50m-£60m) and believe me they won’t leave it sitting in th bank. You keep chasing your rainbows and unicorns and let the grown-ups hold the club to account!

  • harold shand says:

We’ve got a guy in charge of transfers who’s job at the city group was helping players settle in

  • Shaun Kenny says:

If only We had a Scouting and Recruitment Team similar to Brentford FC, maybe We would have a lot more success with signings instead of going by the Projects that Lawwell snr and jnr want.

  • Dan Tinney says:

No problem for me it’s a sign that we are not just signing projects but looking for experience! Just get it right even if it takes another window !

  • Bob (original) says:

We really – really – should have had the announcement of a new player yesterday.

    sevco trumped us there.

Have zero confidence that the Board has learned anything from the

    summer transfer shambles.

    And so it continues… 🙁

  • BriBhoy says:

Don’t disagree with any of the above. We have certainly been weakened by appalling signings. So have they, though, and we should be doing far better with what we have got than we are.

  • Bhoy4life says:

Managed decline to keep the sevco relevant and solvent.
Don’t think for one minute Celtic aren’t complicit or at the very least over a barrel re the 5WA.

    • Jim Duffy says:

Of course they are complicit in the 5WA , especially liewell who denied ever seeing it,that’s why our board don’t rock the boat too much with sevco or the SFA.
