When you are as insecure and unsuccessful as Todd Cantwell the last thing that you want is to be ignored.

Since moving to Ibrox in January the former Norwich starlet has played their support like a fiddle to mask his complete lack of any success on the pitch.

Social media has been used constantly to build a bond, central to that has been trying to build up a feud with the pundit that bears hate most. Todd gets it apparently, he understands the club. He certainly understands the Gullible & Deluded supporters.

When Chris Sutton called out Mark Warburton the fans rallied behind the future England manager, likewise his successors with Pedro Caixinha, Steven Gerrard, Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Micky Beale delivering two trophies over seven miserable seasons. Sutton saw through them all, just as he did with Ronny Deila and Neil Lennon long before the end.

Cantwell has taken to social media a couple of times claiming that Sutton is picking on him- failing to realise that the former Chelsea striker gets paid by the Daily Mail, BBC Five Live, Sky Sports and the Daily Record to comment on footballers and managers every week of the year.

In the land of TikTok big bad Sutton is conducting a with hunt because he is jealous of Cantwell and fearful that his success will destroy Celtic. All in TikTok’s mind.

Since being substituted during the first half of the Europa League tie against ARIS Limassol Cantwell has generated as much attention from Ibrox fans as the final result.

Some fans praised Philippe Clement for substituting a player refusing to follow instructions, others slaughtered their boss for removing the golden boy while Sam Lammers played hide and seek in Cantwell’s preferred role.

Touching very briefly in his Daily Record column about Thursday’s snub against ARIS Limassol, Sutton noted:

Clement is saying all the right things, just as Postecoglou did. And making big calls, as we saw with Todd Cantwell on Thursday night. Celtic need to stand on the pedal, get moving and strike fear into sides again.

From the Ibrox dressing room on Thursday night Cantwell would have been on his phone looking for reaction, so far he has resisted the urge to deliver some deep and meaningful message.

Any sort of comment from Sutton would have been jumped on by the out of form 25-year-old desperate for attention and an audience.

Team news today will be interesting, before the month ends there are trips to Hampden and Celtic Park. Further snubs and humiliation will be tough for Cantwell to take but if Sutton turns a blind eye it might be too much for TikTok to handle with a return to anonymity in the lower reaches of English football the obvious move in January.
