Sydney van Hooijdonk’s imminent move to Norwich City as cleared the way for Mark Lawwell to deliver the striker that Brendan Rodgers has been waiting all month for.

Celtic had been strongly linked with the Bologna striker but as he heads for Carrow Road Adam Idah looks like moving north to join the hoops.

Kyogo Furuhashi has been the only striker available to Brendan Rodgers over the last two games, with three demanding away games coming up there is an obvious need for more firepower while Oh Hyeon-gyu and Daizen Maeda are on duty at the Asian Cup.

Adah has spent most of the season as a substitute for Norwich who are currently in ninth place, three points behind Coventry City in the final Play Off Place.

Starting 12 Championship matches and coming off the bench 16 times the Irish internationalist has scored six goals with his last Championship goal coming at the start of December away to Bristol City. He also scored in the FA Cup win against Bristol Rovers on January 17.

As the tweet above suggests it seems that the arrival of van Hooijdonk at Norwich has made Idah surplus to requirements with a number of reports on Tuesday night suggesting that he is on route to joining Celtic on loan.

A once-promising Norwich starlet now misfiring and out in the cold looking for a career kick-start…… is this our Todd Cantwell moment then?

    • Paddybhoy67 says:

You beat me too it … let’s hope he’s not as much of a prat

      • Captain Swing says:

I don’t think anyone could be as much of a prat as the Gumtree Beckham!

Who knows, if he comes in he might be able to do a job, like Timo Weah or somebody?
But I think we all want some signings that signal a bit of intent – fair enough, Hatate’s & O’Riley’s don’t just fall out of trees, and EPL players cost disproportionate amounts of money, but an effective scouting network should be looking globally. We have former players all over the feckin’ world who should form part of an informal network of scouts tipping the club a wink if they hear of emerging talent, or unusual contractual situations with established players – like the contract clause which Wim was aware of that snagged us Larsson for £650k!!

  • Robert McLaughlin says:

Oh Dear celtic going for 3rd choice Norwich striker but can’t sign him until Norwich sign player Celtic where supposed to be going for…doesn’t say much for the Attraction of celtic to players ( even ones who have Connections with club ) Tut Tut Daddy Lawwell won’t let me spend a penny more than necessarily oh dear poor Us the real Celtic fans boo sack the board who fostered BE on Us…Now we get 3rd choice strikers from English championship side!! Boo

  • Jim Duffy says:

We would still be much better going after shankland or miovsk, they are proven goalscorers in SPFL.this guy from Norwich sounds like a 3rd or 4th choice last day last ditch effort to appease the support, not optimistic at all about this signing If it happens,it’s got big liewells biscuit tin written all over it.

  • Jack says:

If Rodgers likes him I’ll I’m happy sorry there isn’t more signings but our squad is best in spl barring injuries team are top of league with a lot of first team players injured leaving manager with playing players that he would not squad has been stretch and it hurt in Europe when subs had to be used we are still top of our league with no European games during weeks international are a pain especially frendlies hopefully Asian cup finishes Feb get our players back hopefully it will give hiata match fit hopefully all comeback with no injuries we are where we want to be had a bad spell in Dec it’s harder to play catch up Glasgow derby a farce with no away support but sfa have to make clubs give away fans more tickets seeing so many empty seats at some hone games refusing to sell there ground out

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Unfortunately though Jack – We also have the best players in the league… Who are made of brittle glass !

  • KC67 says:

Absolute disgrace, bottom of the barrel stuff. This is self sabotage by the board all in the name of keeping the huns relevant.

Lawwells 3 objectives this season –

    1. Make sure the huns win the league to access the champions league money next season.

    2. Don’t strengthen the team to make sure objective 1 is a success.

    3. Make the manager leave (you didn’t want him there anyway).

SACK THE BOARD, BACK THE TEAM.

I agree. Unless/until the supporters rebel and hound that fat slug and his wean out of CP then we’ll just get more of the same. Truth be told I’m absolutely fukkin sick of this predictable scenario. But who’s up for action?
We need to somehow unite those who see through this malignant scumbag and take suitable action. There’s enough of us who want him gone, it’s now a matter of leadership.
Desmond needs to get the message too. No more fukkin Financial Advisors, Lawyers or bean-counters, no more tories…….A Celtic fit for purpose with significant supporter representation.
I have some ideas regarding Lawwell (snr) but I don’t know how to progress things.
I’d certainly chip in to help make something ‘concrete’ happen. We also need be aware of the Lawwell backers, the enemy within.
Hail! Hail! The Glasgow Celtic, Glasgow’s Green & White,
Get that stinking Board TF, they’re worse than animal shite!
