Genoa are reported to have joined Lecce in trying to take Gus Lagerbielke to Serie A.

It seems fairly clear that the defender is surplus to requirements at Celtic with Stephen Welsh and Maik Nawrocki recently starting matches in the absence of Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Soon after Carl Starfelt left Celtic his fellow Swede was arriving as a replacement for what can only be described as a highly eventful stint in Glasgow.

In match three Lagerbielke helped Celtic to a win at Ibrox quickly followed by a red card on his Champions League debut, a goal for Sweden against Moldova and a super-sub winner against Feyenoord as Celtic won their first home Champions League tie in 11 years.

Italian website Tuttomercato reports:

According to what was gathered by the TMW editorial team, Lagerbielke is also in the sights of Genoa, with the Grifone wanting the Swedish central defender as the name for the post-Radu Dragusin, who is increasingly closer to Tottenham.

The next few hours will be decisive, in one sense or another, with the two Italian clubs having further contacts both with Celtic and with the player’s entourage. For this last thing, the Giallorossi would have a preferential channel, given that the agents of the Swedish international are the same as Pontus Almqvist.

With Nat Phillips back at Liverpool and Yuki Kobayashi expected to return to Japan Brendan Rodgers looks like being down to four central defenders with Liam Scales and Carter-Vickers the first choice pairing.

Lagerbielke did sign a five year contract with Celtic in August which could be a stumbling block to any permanent move going through.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.
Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement, cheers big man.
There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same more than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying every success for Scotland's Most Successful Club.

How can we give a player a 5 Yr deal then get shot a few months later? Lawwell has a lot to answer for.

Probably a Lawwell signing but hey he’ll never admit it and Brendan will be silenced one way or another…

But it’ll be strange (if he does go) that The Scottish Football Media downtown ask Brendan why –

It’d be interesting to see on here what was said if that situation ever comes to pass !

** Downtown ask Brendan why **

Should of course be DON’T ASK BRENDAN WHY –

Wish there was a wee edit option to rectify mistakes like that one !

El D, Ha, the short name for my regular tipple (as well as Lanny) at the fitba many years ago.
Anyway pal, it looks like the same old, same old craic. Lawwell, you bastard!
As soon as I saw Brendan mention he had no intention of signing a ‘keeper in this ‘window’ I sensed, sorry smelled a rat. Peter Thomas Lawwell & Son, so two rats really.
Time for action is now, before the transfer window closes. I live in England but I’d travel that far to support the truth and the end of family Lawwell at CP and Desmond too.
In fact all of the current Board of Decievers
I SUGGEST a peaceful sleep-out en masse outside CP with banners and so on, explaining our many, many grievances at how OUR club is run. Advance notification to selective world press. Desmond doesn’t like bad press so it WILL have an effect.
I’d need all the local help available, hopefully the GB ++++++++++
Does that sound feasible? If so, count me in.
Hail! Hail! The Glasgow Celtic, fukk the huns and fukk the board.

Gus showed plenty of promise but was never given a run in the team! That makes me think he was brought in as a project player!
Celtic fancied he was a good one, so they gave him a long contract, just to strengthen their hand when they go to sell him!
He’s basically sat on the bench for a season! That doesn’t do himself any favours, only he probably doesn’t realise it!
To me that is not right!
But then, it is Lawwell and Lawwell we are dealing with here. So, anything goes!
