The strip and even the formation looked a little different but Celtic looked more like their old selves as they knocked St Mirren out of the Scottish Cup.

Drawing at Aberdeen and a late victory over Hibs had raised plenty of doubts about the squad assembled by Brendan Rodgers, on form the trip to Paisley should have been a tougher test than the two previous fixtures.

The pairing of Adam Idah and Kyogo Furuhashi was the issue that jumped off the team-sheet and after just 15 minutes it paid dividends with the former Vissel Kobe striker opening the scoring with a well placed shot following great build up play involving Callum McGregor and Luis Palma.

Alex Gogic tested Celtic with two overhead kicks as the home side pushed for an equaliser but eight minutes into the second half there was relief among the away support as Daizen Maeda netted after a shot from Matt O’Riley came off the crossbar.

The low camera angle manages to capture some of the pace involved in both goals, after a couple of stuttering performances Celtic fans will be looking to kick on and see more of the same starting with Saturday’s match at home to Kilmarnock.
