Idiotic bloggers that don’t have a scoobie- top reporter McGowan lets rip in BBC rant

Stephen McGowan has delivered a blistering attack on idiotic bloggers that seem to be causing him some difficulties.

On Saturday The Daily Mail reporter appeared on Off The Ball on Radio Scotland and clearly had a lot to get off his chest.

Since leaving the Celtic View McGowan has climbed the ladder from the Daily Express to the Daily Mail, in 2022 he was the only reporter from a Scottish publisher to attend the World Cup Finals in Qatar.

Down the years Peter Lawwell has been virtually exempt from any criticism by McGowan despite the stagnation in every area of Celtic, the failure to win a European knock out tie in 20 years and the downsizing of the club until Dermot Desmond appointed Brendan Rodgers in May 2016.

While fans can rattle off the names of Malmo, Maribor, Cluj, Ferencvaros and AEK Athens they’ll barely feature on the pages of the Mail, much like Marian Shved, Vakoun Bayo, Patryk Klimala, Ismaila Soro, Vasilis Barkas, Albian Ajeti, Oli Burke, Jeremy Toljan and Diego Laxalt to name a few flops snapped up by the former Celtic CEO.

Online only Paul67 on Celtic Quick News will praise the brilliance of Lawwell, as recently as Thursday Video Celts highlighted a Q and A between McGowan and Lawwell from 2014 where the CEO explained that every penny coming into the club is reinvested in the team. On Friday Celtic announced an end of year bank balance of £67m.

It didn’t take much to get McGowan upset and angry, one suggestion from Cowan 4 minutes and 40 seconds into Saturday’s show and the idiotic bloggers were in the firing line!

Cowan: Three different people sent me a photo which I hope was Photoshopped of you getting a piggyback ride from Peter Lawwell. Folk suggesting that maybe you are a lapdog with Peter Lawwell. True or false?

McGowan: The biggest …… I can’t……

Cowan: Do you get this quite a lot?

McGowan: I get it every day

Cowan: It’s a great photo

McGowan: Every day of life, it’s nonsense.

Cowan: I’ve had three folk

McGowan: Yeah because they are spread by idiotic bloggers who’ve not got a scoobie

Cowan: Right, so what is happening

McGowan: You get, you are the board’s go-to man, I mean. Celtic don’t brief or leak anything. In fact I wish that they did, it would make life an awful lot easier.

Cowan: So Dermot Desmond, he is saying about a clear out at boardroom level (based solely on a tweet from Roger Mitchell). Peter Lawwell is apparently saying yes, yes you are right, I know it as well, we should have splashed the cash.

Celtic fans, they are still sitting up there, as Brendan Rodgers pointed out this week the league title is still in their hands because they are going to have two games still against Rangers of course.

You know, what is your take just now, where do you sit. I keep saying to Stuart

blah blah blah blah zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

McGowan: Listen, it is a very hard sell to justify having £67m or £72m in the bank when you are second to your biggest rivals and they have a very good chance of winning the league.

And all those zeros at the end of the bank balance they are absolutely no use whatsoever if you aren’t going to win the league and you’re going to let your rivals get to the Champions League.

There is a very good chance you would say of that with 12 games to go so for me Celtic had a get out of jail card in January. They had all that money in the bank, they were clearly not quite at it before Christmas although they obviously beat Rangers on the 30th of December.

So they had the real chance to splash some money about, they could have signed Bojan Miovski, give Aberdeen £6m or whatever. People say ‘oh we’re not paying that for an SPFL player’ well why not?

Because I think that if Bojan Miovski was up front for Celtic just now instead of Adam Idah I think that they’d still probably be top of the league.

I mean Peter Lawwell says in his statement yesterday ‘ah we tried to spend our money, clubs didn’t want our money’. Well every player is for sale, maybe they just weren’t offering enough of it.
