Brendan Rodgers was able to offer definite timelines for the return of Greg Taylor and Cameron Carter-Vickers from injury.

The full-back has missed four matches after suffering a calf injury during the Scottish Cup win over Buckie Thistle, a week after that match Carter-Vickers return from injury came to a halt during the 1-0 win over Ross County.

Celtic’s defence has been hammered by injuries this season but at St Mirren today a new look back four delivered a clean sheet.

Taylor and Carter-Vickers were first picks in Ange Postecoglou’s treble winning side with both appearing close to returning to the team sheet.

Greg Taylor has been a big miss for us. Someone like Greg it’s only when he’s out of the team that you you see what he brings.

His brightness, his cleverness, his technique his physicality in terms of his running and into the right areas. He’s back training, and he’ll be available for next weekend.

Carter-Vickers won’t be too long. Again, he’s out on the pitch but it’s been a challenging year for him.

He’s had the operation and you know it’s like, from that there, he’s had rumblings there and he’s maybe even taken this whole year to to get over that and then have a good preseason but he’s back on the pitch and hopefully in the next few weeks he’ll be okay.

Despite improved performances from Alexandro Bernabei against Hibs and St Mirren from the tone of Rodgers’ comments Taylor will go straight back into the Celtic side to face Kilmarnock on Saturday.

The performances of Stephen Welsh and Liam Scales will have encouraged Rodgers that he has some depth in central defence but a fully fit Carter-Vickers will be warmly welcomed after a season dogged by injury.
