SFA put Beaton in charge of vital Celtic match

John Beaton will referee Saturday’s match between Celtic and Kilmarnock.

The Lanarkshire based official has already been in charge of three Celtic matches this season, the early season win away to Livingston followed by the midweek home wins over St Mirren and Hibs.

Beaton is best remembered for his handling of the December 2018 Glasgow Derby at Ibrox which prompted a call from Celtic for increased transparency and an explanation of some decisions taken.

There was no public follow up to Celtic’s statement, in 2020 and 2023 Beaton took charge of the Scottish Cup Final which is generally regarded as reward for the best referee over the season.

Willie Collum will be on VAR duty with Peter Stuart on touchline duty as Fourth Official.

Kilmarnock come to Celtic sitting in fourth place in the SPFL Premiership and looking for their third win of the season over Brendan Rodgers’ side.
