Chris Sutton has launched a blistering attack on Brendan Rodgers.

While Celtic’s results have nose dived most attention has been on the board of Directors, the Chairman and Mark Lawwell, the Head of Scouting and Recruitment.

All of those issues are certainly relevant but the bottom line as manager is to put out a team capable of taking full points from Aberdeen, Kilmarnock and the rest of the clubs.

There is no one available for selection to Derek McInnes or Neil Warnock that attracted a January offer from Celtic but both their clubs have taken points off Celtic over the last month.

Tonight Celtic are sitting in second place, even with over £70m sitting in the bank Sutton believes that the manager needs questioned on how a comfortable lead at the start of December has crumbled into second place with a dozen matches left to play.

Picking up on his appearance on Sky Sports today, The Sun reports Sutton saying:

The result yesterday, I don’t think it came as a great shock. Celtic have been bang average this season.

The wins have papered over the cracks – performances haven’t been there – they’re not a good team this season.

Everybody talks about the board, signings and this being a long time in the making this particular moment. Brendan Rodgers has to take responsibility.

I can’t think of one player at Celtic who he has improved – that’s on the manager. You look at the points they’ve dropped domestically in isolation, they’ve been poor.

They’ve been outplayed, I cant remember the last time a Celtic team were outplayed in halves of football by so many teams. That’s on Brendan.

Why is it? We’ve touched on the wide players before. They were playing fast and furious under Ange Postecoglou – the brand of football is slow, predictable.

There isn’t a fear factor when teams go up against Celtic – teams fancy getting a result. The result as bad as it was wasn’t a great surprise.

Celtic aren’t back in action to Sunday, when they kick off at Fir Park they could be sitting five points behind in second place.
